Japan has a low incidence of coronary heart disease, which could be attributed to the consumption of traditional fermented soy food natto (boiled soyb... eans that have been fermented with a type of bacteria). Nattokinase is an enzyme that’s extracted from natto—it’s a natural blood thinner and might protect against heart disease and conditions caused by blood clots; like strokes, heart attacks, etc.I prefer to get my dose of nattokinase via supplementation. I like Umeken’s formula because it also includes fucoidan and ginko leaf extract—added anti-inflammatory fighters. What I don’t understand is the excessive cost—this isn’t the only Japanese brand nattokinase I’ve tried, but it is one of the most expensive. More worrisome is the lack of literature that accompanies this product—there is absolutely nothing. Other brands (Labo Nutrition comes to mind) provide lots of helpful information about their supplements and the company in general. I wish Numeken did the same.Regardless, my family has a history of heart disease, so I’m taking a pro-active approach by including nattokinase into my daily supplementation regimen. So far I’ve been able to keep health issues at bay, thanks to supplements like this one.  Show more

This is certainly not the cheapest nattokinase supplement available, but it gives every appearance of being a well-made and serious one. It's supplied... in individual daily packets, each containing 8 tablets with a waxy coating on the outside — enteric coating helps with absorption, presumably — and no unpleasant flavor or odor at all. They're easy to swallow and seem like a great way to experiment with the health benefits of natto without, well, having to eat the nasty stuff. A good choice.  Show more

If you've looked this far, you're likely aware of the Japanese/Taiwanese fucoidan immune/inflammation re... search.Nattokinase is another sort of supplement benefit. I'm likely among a small % of US longer-term biz visitors to Japan that fell in love with breakfast natto & rice ... every morning. The strange slimy stuff is an umami delight. It's only in int'l catering West Coast hotel breakfast buffets, particularly in Seattle, that I've found the freshly cultured comparable natto. Natto made me feel better. I've been unsuccessful in trying to culture natto here in TX. So, I rely on the nattokinase supplement.The compounding of fucoidan and nattokinase is ideal. The typical, high-grade Japanese packaging is interesting. The usual capsule is replaced by small, sweet-tasting pellets more easily swallowed.
